Sorry, but I don't know about the first one; the second, however, is probably about how one's opportunities are limited, based on how you approach life. In the poem, the bird was waiting in the corner, wings pressed close: kind of like, when one waits for chance to come too them, stuck in their room, just letting life go by. It's saw the horizon in the distance, the bird wanted to get there: he/she (with desire) wanted to move on and get farther in live (not just sit there), but he/she was bound by the past. The bird rips and tore it's way out of the cordon (rope/wire) And lifted in the air, with emotion, power, and now at ease: he/she had left the room they were cooped in, and now taking on like (it was an emotional moment for he/she, the person now feels free from their self 'inprisonation'). They're now taking on life the way they should have. :)
