This could be the deal of a lifetime. But is it real?
A local shop has a K98. It's got the Mauser banner logo where the factory code and swastika would be on the receiver as well as the imperial eagle on the side of the receiver so it's pre-war production. It's in excellent condition inside and out aside from a little faded bluing on the front barrel band and half of the cleaning rod. Everywhere else is untouched. It's 100% all matching serial #'s. It hasn't been bubba'd or tampered with in any way. The price is $250. Is this for real? Seriously, I don't believe it. It's even still chambered in 8mm. I've got no idea what year it was manufactured, and I don't know of any notorious pre-war clones or fakes. Only thing is, I haven't seen the bore yet. I don't care if it looks like a sewer, this would be the perfect companion piece for my beat up Russian capture '44. But is it really this great of a find?
